LSG Engineering, Inc. is a Summit County based mechanical engineering consulting firm located in Akron, Ohio. The company commenced business in January, 1992 and is now well into the 27th year of providing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design services to the Northeast Ohio design and construction community. Mechanical Engineer - Design Engineer - Building Design - HVAC Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities/Project Types/Experience Required

Candidate’s responsibilities would include preparation of HVAC production drawings (beginning to end), redline drafting, use of Autocad and Revit, specification editing, submittal review, site visits/reviews, RFI responses, interacting with clients, attending client meetings, reviewing mechanical documentation, and coordinating information across all disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations.

Candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical HVAC systems for a variety of project types, including education (K-12 and higher education), municipal, worship, office, medical, data centers, office/warehouse, industrial facilities, high/low rise long term care facilities, food service facilities, retail and other commercial buildings.

Candidate experience should include design of central plants (4-pipe and 2-pipe) utilizing chillers, boilers & cooling tower, constant and variable flow pumping systems, constant and variable flow air handling units, temperature control & energy management systems, piping systems, ductwork systems, variable air volume terminal units, ground source heat pump systems, variable refrigerant flow systems, water chemical treatment systems, packaged chillers, packaged roof top A/C units and split direct expansion A/C unit systems.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in mechanical design
  • Experience with industry standard software, including but not limited to HVAC load calculation programs such as Carrier HAP , Trane Trace and/or eQuest with energy modeling experience preferred
  • Excellent engineering judgment to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Self-motivated and detailed oriented with excellent follow-through skills
  • Must be familiar with the AE design process and the specification development process leading to the development of construction documents
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD. REVIT experience is a definite plus
  • LEED AP and/or member of professional societies (ASHRAE, ASPE, USGBC, CPD) helpful
  • Willingness to contribute in a team-oriented environment


HVAC Mechanical Engineer Co-Op/Intern

Responsibilities/Project Types/Experience Required

We currently have an opening for a Co-op/Intern within our mechanical engineering department in our Akron, OH office. Our mechanical engineering department provides professional engineering services for the design of building mechanical systems.

LSG Engineering Co-op/Intern opportunities are designed to provide actual professional experience to engineering students. Our Co-ops/Interns are primarily supervised by our engineers who assist with day to-day questions and prepare the Co-ops/Interns to solve problems while completing assigned projects or portions of projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides drafting and design services to support the department using AutoCAD, REVIT and/or other 2D/3D drafting software;
  • When required, assists engineers with visits to job sites for verification, progress evaluations, measurements and other field data gathering;
  • Assists Engineer with researching product selection and material for appropriate use on projects;
  • Assists Engineer with developing energy models using energy modeling software;
  • Assists Engineer with engineering calculations using both hand methods and software in support of designs;
  • Posts addenda to contract documents;
  • Assists Engineer with review of contractor submittals to confirm compliance with engineering contract documents;
  • Files project documents.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; Ideally candidates would be in their junior/senior year.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with building mechanical systems (HVAC systems);
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, familiar with Revit, and possess knowledge of Word and Excel.
